Richmond premiership player Brandon Ellis is a free agent at season's end, but will need to make a hefty sacrifice if he wants to remain at Tigerland in 2020.

Ellis has his fair share of possible suitors, and could potentially command anywhere from $500,000-$600,000 per year on his next deal, according to the Herald Sun.

However, it is understood the Tigers aren't willing to risk losing young talent in a bid to lock down the 25-year-old, with the club reportedly set to offer him a maximum of $400,000 a season, which is around the average AFL salary.

The Tigers still need to re-sign the likes of Sydney Stack, Shai Bolton and Liam Baker, with Dan Butler and Mabior Chol also off-contract at the end of the season.

The Herald Sun also believe Shane Edwards and Bachar Houli are set to have their contracts extended for another year, given the pair's impressive form over the course of 2019 to date.
