Carlton is monitoring the situation of in-demand Collingwood assistant coach Justin Longmuir, according to Mike Sheahan.

Longmuir is a leading candidate for the vacant Fremantle job after enhancing his coaching credentials at the Magpies as the team's backline and team defence coach.

Longmuir was a development coach at Fremantle before joining arch-rivals West Coast in 2011 as an assistant, spending the next seven years under John Worsfold and Adam Simpson before joining the Magpies for the 2019 season.

Sheahan believes the Blues would like to pair up Longmuir with new coach David Teague for the 2020 season.

“If he (Longmuir) misses out on Freo, Carlton are very, very keen on Justin Longmuir,” Sheahan told SEN Breakfast.

“Carlton refuse to finalise their coaching support panel until they know what’s happening at Freo.

“Right now, if I was punting, I’d say he’s going to end up at Carlton.”
