- After Fremantle's five-point win over North Melbourne last Saturday night, it stayed true to the narrative of both sides' fortunes in close contests over the years. Since 2010, Fremantle have won 73% of games decided by a single-figure margin, while North Melbourne have only won 30% of them.

- Not only are North Melbourne woeful in close contests, they also can't hold a lead. From the past 17 matches in which the Kangaroos have led at three-quarter time, they've only held on to win twice. Yep, they've lost 15 from their past 17 while leading at the final change. Ouch.

- Tiger fans, welcome to September. Only one side since 2001 has started a season 5-0 and not made the finals, and that was the Bombers in 2013, when they were booted out of the finals following the supplements saga.

- Against the Bulldogs on Saturday, Brisbane jumped out to a fast and efficient start, booting 10 goals from their first 14 inside 50s. Since the stat was first recorded back in 1999, only Richmond (2002 v Collingwood) and Port Adelaide (2009 v Brisbane) have taken less inside 50s to kick 10 goals (both sides had 13).

- With news on Friday that Shaun Hampson would likely miss the entire season with a back injury, it continued on the curse of AFL players who've played 98 games. Hampson joins Brisbane midfielder Allen Christensen and Gold Coast's Sam Day as players who won't feature for the rest of the season, with the pair having played 98 games in their careers as well.
