Collingwood defender Ben Reid is close to returning to full training after knee surgery in the off-season.

Reid injured his posterior cruciate ligament in round four last year, and managed to play through the pain until round 20 before his season was over.

Pies football manager Geoff Walsh told collingwoodfc.com.au that Reid would join the main group in the coming weeks.

"(Reid's) going really well. The steps that he's making each week are positive and he's not far away from full training. We're really pleased with his post-operation recovery," he said.

Reid has been running at training during the pre-season, and the 2011 All Australian will be looking to train the house down in order to put himself back into contention as soon as possible.

Fellow defender Tom Langdon is also restricted to just running laps, although his return seems a bit further off.

"He hurt his back in a gym incident lifting weights. He also had a bit of a niggle in his knee over that end of season period," Walsh said.

"He's just being monitored and in the rehab group at the moment. Tommy's probably a few weeks away from full training."
