West Coast is hopeful star ruckman Nic Naitanui will finally return from injury for this weekend's clash with Fremantle at Domain Stadium.

Coach Adam Simpson told Channel Seven on Monday night that Naitanui will have to get through training this week before his spot in the side is confirmed, however, he is more than likely to take the field for his first game since Round 12.

"We hope so but we'll have to see how he gets through the week," Simpson said.

"At the moment we need to see how he trains. He was almost available last week but he had a really big session on the weekend so we need to see how he pulls up and trains during the week. But fingers crossed."

Naitanui has missed the past seven weeks after surgery to remove both plantaris tendons in his feet.

Meanwhile, Fremantle ruckman Aaron Sandilands is also set to return for his first match since Round 3.
