Geelong’s Nathan Vardy had surgery on Monday night on his reconstructed knee, creating further doubt regarding the ruckman’s future.
Geelong coach Chris Scott said he is unable to name an exact return date for Vardy, but he expects the 23-year-old to resume training relatively soon.
“It’s so uncertain that I don’t want to appear definitive but our expectation is that this is a minor setback,” Scott said.
“The feedback is that the surgery went really well. It was only a minor procedure just to clean out a bit of an impingement so we’re hopeful that will only keep him out for a couple of weeks.”
Scott is hopeful that Vardy, who missed the entire 2014 season, can still play some part in the second half of this season.
