Former Geelong and Sydney forward Dan Menzel has his eyes on an AFL return, possibly via the 2020 mid-season draft.
Menzel made an amazing recovery from four knee reconstructions but was surprisingly not offered a contract by the Cats at the end of the 2018 season before making the move to the Swans.
He was at Sydney for just the one year before being delisted by the Swans at the end of the 2019 campaign.
The 2019 season started slowly for Menzel who had groin surgery once arriving in Sydney and subsequently only managed seven games for the season. The goal-sneak said he is in the best shape he has been in for quite some time/
"I was amazed how my body actually felt... I don't have pain, I don't have soreness... I have never felt like this since the first two years of my career," he told The Age.
"The mid-season draft is definitely what I'm aiming at."
After four ruptured ACLs it seemed cruel that Menzel would be fouled by troublesome groins, he said his knees had been strong for the last few years but fear of the groin made him hold back at times.
Clubs cooled on Menzel once he was let go by the Swans with the idea being his body can't handle the modern game.
Menzel has returned home to South Australia to play in the SANFL with his brother Troy at Central Districts as a player and assistant coach during the week.
