Channel Seven's Tom Browne has reported that Melbourne is prepared to trade key forward Chris Dawes in the upcoming trade period.

Despite being contracted until the end of 2016, the under performing forward could be forced out the door if the right trade comes up, with Melbourne growing frustrated with his inconsistent performances.

Dawes joined Melbourne on a lucrative deal in 2012, after four seasons with Collingwood, where he won the 2010 premiership.

The 27-year-old has played 115 career games and kicked 126 goals.
