Former Gold Coast coach Guy McKenna has expressed his interest in becoming the next coach of Carlton.

McKenna says he still has the passion for coaching, despite his unceremonious sacking from the Suns at the end of last season.

"You wouldn't say no, that's for sure," McKenna told Channel 7 on Sunday.

"I look at them from afar and I don't see what they're about to go through as any different to what Gold Coast (went through).

"Gold Coast was a blank canvas, I understand that. Carlton has got this magnificent history. But where they're at, the bonus for me going into that role is that I'd have a lot more senior players around me."

"I haven't been soured or embittered by the (Gold Coast) experience," he said.

"I think I'd be better placed and more educated the second time around."
