St Kilda forward Paddy McCartin will be sidelined for another two to three weeks due to concussion.

The Saints will take a cautious approach with McCartin, who has suffered six concussions since 2014.

His latest came in the VFL last month while playing for Sandringham.

The 21-year-old says his latest setback, which has frustrated the former No.1 draft pick, is likely to keep him out for around another three weeks as he looks to tick another few boxes before being available for selection.

"There's a few things like base line testing and things like that where I'm not quite 100 per cent," McCartin said.

"With the head stuff it's pretty important that that's all 100 per cent and spot on.

"I'll have a few more weeks off and reassess then.

"I'm feeling really good, I feel fine. I'm doing all the training, probably more of the training load than what I would in-season when I'm playing so that's a positive.

"This is my third year now and a lot of footy I've missed is through these things.

"The same with any injury it's frustration but you take time to process things and deal with it because everyone goes through little hurdles in their careers. You look at pretty much every player on the list, they go through things and I'm no different to them."

McCartin has managed just 22 senior games since being drafted in 2014.
