Gutted Carlton coach Mick Malthouse says he wants to stay on beyond this year but accepts no board can sustain a coach that’s not winning games.

The Blues were put to the sword by a rampant Collingwood last night at the MCG in what was Malthouse’s record-breaking 715th game at the helm.

“The buck stops with me,” Malthouse told 3AW. “We’ll get back on the horse and we will attempt to pick the best side possible to play Brisbane next week and we’ll do what we can to win the game.”

Malthouse is contracted until the end of the season with the Blues in no hurry to extend his term.
