Former St Kilda and Fremantle coach Ross Lyon has thrown Sydney's name into the ring of contenders that should chase out-of-contract Giant Jeremy Cameron.

Drawing comparisons to the deal that saw Lance Franklin join the Swans in 2013, Lyon believes the GWS star could be the answer to the ageing Franklin.

The Giants remain confident of retaining Cameron for the future, while Geelong are reportedly interested in pairing his services with Coleman Medal winner Tom Hawkins.

The Swans haven't been linked to the 27-year-old and would shock the league if they were to push hard for their rival's key man.

“They’ve got a tall dilemma. They need to get a key back and ruck in and another key forward that steps up and supports Buddy,” Lyon said on Channel 9’s Footy Classified.

“If I’m the Swans, I’m siting there thinking Cameron’s in our backyard out of contract, maybe you’re having a crack at him.

“If you’re going to look at someone you may as well start at the top and he’s free. That would put the cat among the pigeons.”

The Giants recently penned Harry Perryman to a new deal while defender Zac Williams is set to explore his free agency rights.
