The Brisbane Lions have begun talks with star midfielders Daniel Rich and Jack Redden before they become free agents at the end of 2016.
Rich and Redden are both out of contract at the end of next season, however, the Lions are hoping to sure up the 24-year-olds before they hit the open market.
They are both hugely important to the club and are seen as two of the players who can lead the Lions back to Premiership glory.
Brisbane CEO Greg Swan said that the club needs to be active in retaining its star players.
“We are constantly looking at where our list is at,” Swann said.
“We are making overtures to the relevant player managers for the blokes who are up this year, next year and even the year after that.”
Matthew Leuenberger, Jed Adcock , James Aish, Brent Staker, Mitch Golby and Rohan Bewick are among a host of players out of contract for the Lions at the end of this season.
