Star Melbourne midfielder Jordan Lewis says the deliberate out of bounds rule must be immediately reviewed.
Speaking to the media ahead of the side's Breast Cancer Network Australia match against Hawthorn this week, Lewis said the rule has become "ridiculous".
"I personally think it's become a little bit ridiculous to be honest," Lewis said.
"It needs to be looked at because sometimes players don't have any other options."
Lewis pointed to two cases during the Western Bulldogs-GWS game last Friday night to highlight howย unpredictable and subjective the rule can be.
"You look at the Jake Stringer one, you look at the Tom Boyd one," Lewis said.
"The ball has literally bounced at right angles and we're playing with an oval ball that can bounce wherever โ it's not predictable.
"So I think it certainly needs to be looked at."
However, Lewis said the last touch rule, which has been suggested by some and wouldย see the team who touched the ball last before it went out of bounds, give away a free kick, is also not the answer.
"I sit at home as a viewer of the game and I get frustrated," Lewis said.
"I'm sure there's others out there like that and I don't support the last touch out of bounds is a free kick either."
Lewis will line-up against his former team for the first time when the Demons host the Hawks on Sunday afternoon.
