Brisbane Lions’ season has gone from bad to worse with the revelation senior coach Justin Leppitsch was involved in a physical clash with rookie Zac O’Brien during halftime of the club’s reserves match at the weekend.
The club has confirmed a report that Leppitsch grabbed O’Brien after taking offence at the way the rookie had spoken to Brisbane’s NEAFL coach — former Brownlow medallist Shane Woewodin — during the main break of Saturday night’s clash.
Chief executive Greg Swann backed the coach and refuted allegations Leppitsch had become overly physical with O’Brien.
“We spoke to Justin about the incident and we are fully supportive of the action taken,” Swann told Fairfax Media. “As far as we are concerned the matter has been resolved and there is no further issue.”
