Hawthorn full back Brian Lake is in doubt for Saturday’s clash with the Gold Coast Suns after appearing to hurt his knee in Hawthorn’s loss to the Swans.

Lake played his first game in four weeks on Saturday, after spending time on the sidelines due to a medial strain.

The former Bulldog received treatment on his knee in the rooms towards the end of the first quarter, but then played out the game.

Doctor Peter Larkins said that Lake most likely aggravated the same injury as he sustained a month earlier against Port Adelaide.

“There’s no doubt he gave his medial another tweak,” Larkins said.

“Unfortunately, he got caught up in a tangle of legs and had another valgus strain, which means the medial gets pushed in towards the other knee.

“He was able to go back on the ground but he’ll be really sore early this week.

“It doesn’t rule him out for this week but he’ll certainly have a lot more treatment and he’d have to be a lot less sore by the end of the week for the Hawks to risk him again.”
