West Coast forward Josh Kennedy will not return for the Eagles' clash with Geelong on Thursday night.

Kennedy suffered a calf injury during West Coast's round 10 loss to Greater Western Sydney, with the club initially stating he would miss three weeks.

However, after missing a fortnight, the club was hopeful their star forward may return earlier than expected. But coach Adam Simpson today confirmed he will miss at least another week.

"He (Kennedy) won't play. He couldn't train, so is unavailable," Simpson said.

"We were hopeful. He hasn't had any setbacks, but you've got to be careful when you're his age and it's a significant calf injury.

"We didn't push it."

Simpson said he is backing out of form forward, Jack Darling to bounce back against Geelong.

"He's in indifferent form. No doubt he's not playing to his best," Simpson said of Darling.

"He's got a lot of footy left in him and he's got another level to go to. He's having shots on goal but impact on the game is next.

"He's been a 40 year goal kicker per year. Most teams would take that every day of the week. We'll back him in this week."

Meanwhile, Simpson did confirm at least one change, with Tom Barrass set to come into the side, following impressive form in the WAFL.

"Tom Barrass will also come into the side this week. He's worked hard on his form at East Perth," he said.

Geelong will also be missing its main focul point up forward, with Tom Hawkins set to miss the match after copping a one-game ban for a jumper punch on Adelaide's Matt Crouch in round 11.
