Brisbane captain Dayne Beams will miss 3-4 weeks after scans confirmed the midfielder strained his AC joint in the opening minutes of his side's loss to GWS on Saturday.

Beams was bumped by Giants ruckman Shane Mumford inside the first two minutes, and he didn't return to the field for the remainder of the afternoon.

AFL.com.au journalist Michael Whiting confirmed the news on Monday morning.

The Lion has played in 11 matches so far this season, and has averaged 27.2 disposals a game.

Brisbane face Essendon and Geelong over the next fortnight, before facing Richmond in Melbourne in three weeks' time.
