It's no secret that Collingwood's goalkicking woes have been a big problem for Nathan Buckley's men so far this season, but just how bad have they been in front of goal in 2017?

Collingwood's kicked 18.33 and missed four attempts from all of their set shots this season, which sees them rank dead last in the competition, with a conversion rate of 33% (For some perspective, Geelong and GWS lead the competition with 68% and 66% respectively.)

The biggest culprit is Alex Fasolo, who's already kicked almost twice as many behinds from set shots as he did over the entire 2016 season.

Fasolo was as deadly as any last year, booting 25.6 across his 12 games for the Pies, but the 24-year-old has struggled in front of goal this season, kicking 4.11 from set shots and is 9.13 overall - which sees him with the most behinds out of anyone in the competition - with Buckley admitting his key forward could have a bout of the yips.

“It seems that way. He wears his heart on his sleeve, he is an emotional guy, it’s the type of player he is,’’ Buckley said.

“His first shot is pretty important, we all know that, and he missed a couple of key ones for us today and what do you do?

“He is putting the work in during the week and if he wasn’t putting the work in, as a coach you would be really disappointed.

“He has got to have blisters on his feet and that’s exactly what he is doing. It will come, it will turn if he stays with it.”

Jesse White (2.4), Darcy Moore (1.3) and Taylor Adams (0.3) have all struggled with set shots this season, but Will Hoskin-Elliott's stats may be the most damning.

The former Giant is a perfect 5.0 from set shots in 2017, meaning Collingwood's set shot accuracy slumps down to 13.33 and four misses when the stat doesn't include Hoskin-Elliott. That's quite damning.

It's not all bad for Collingwood however, because if they can mend their goalkicking soon, they'll have plenty of chances to kick a winning score, thanks to their midfielders.

The Pies have no trouble getting the ball inside 50, averaging 57.6 a game, which ranks fifth in the competition.

While the next kick is their real problem (they've only kicked 52 goals this season, which is the second lowest tally ahead of Carlton on 48) fans will be buoyed by the fact they at least get the ball down there enough.

Should they fix their accuracy in front of goal, it will surely bring down their ratio of 5.54 inside 50's per goal, which is the worst in the league by some margin.

Admittedly the season is only five weeks old and a lot can change over the next few months, but if the Pies continue to blow golden opportunities in front of goal, their season could be over before they know it.
