Former West Coast and Carlton champion Chris Judd believes Geelong captain Joel Selwood is one of the toughest players the game has ever seen.

The statement comes after another courageous act from Selwood on Friday night, after he split his head open courtesy of Andy Otten's elbow in a marking contest in the opening quarter.

On Triple M's coverage of the match, Neroli Meadows asked Judd if he'd seen a tougher player, and after some thought, Judd couldn't name anyone who could rival Selwood's toughness.

"I don't think there is a tougher player, to answer your question, Nez," Judd said.

"His courage is legendary. (He) puts his head in places where seemingly no other thing can happen except for him to get a sizeable knock.

"Certainly that contest in the first quarter where he did get cleaned up and opened up, that nasty gash, was brave bordering on stupid."

Selwood was once again one of Geelong's best on Friday night, as he racked up a game-high 35 touches and also added a goal.

Patrick Dangerfield kicked three goals and had 31 touches himself as the star duo lifted the Cats over the line, and Judd praised the pair for leading the way.

"I think we talk about peer group pressure often in a negative form," Judd said.

"But what you see Joel Selwood do and Patrick Dangerfield do: it's peer group pressure in a very, very positive sense for their teammates.
