Brisbane Lions footy boss David Noble has emerged as the 'hot favourite' to become North Melbourne's next senior coach, according to AFL reporter Tom Browne.

The Kangaroos are expected to announce their new coach by the end of the month after mutually agreeing to part ways with Rhyce Shaw.

Speaking on Triple M's The Hot Breakfast on Monday morning, Browne confirmed that Noble is firming for the position.

"They'll interview David Noble later this week, they've already interviewed Robert Harvey. It's essentially down to those two candidates and a few others.

"I think David Noble is very much warming for this job. He's got a background a little bit like Chris Fagan, in terms of coaching through the TAC Cup and some regional coaching and now this footy manager experience."

Browne also revealed that the AFL sounded out former St Kilda and Fremantle coach Ross Lyon for his interest in the position.

"I think the AFL at one point sounded out Ross Lyon, who doesn't want to do it in this instance in this role," he said.

"I think Davis Noble is now the hot favourite. A lot of the managers of players at North Melbourne I spoke to last week are of the opinion that Noble would be great. He's a hot favourite."
