Hawthorn captain Luke Hodge appears likely to return from a broken arm against Adelaide in Round 5.

Hodge, who has resumed training with the main group with an arm guard, said he will see the specialist again today.

The four-time premiership player refused to rule out a shock return this weekend against St Kilda, but conceded it is unlikely.

"See the surgeon today as a follow up, it's two weeks as of yesterday (since the suffering the injury), and then go through and he ticks the boxes and find out how much longer I've got to wait," Hodge told AFL.com.au.

"If you ask any player, I think you've got to say you hope you're a chance (to play this week)," Hodge said.

"It's down to the medical staff and what they say; as long as the function's good you can train."

"(I'll) probably know a bit more later in the week."

The 31-year-old suffered the injury in Hawthorn's Round 1 loss to Geelong on Easter Monday.
