Hawthorn could regain one of its injured stars for this week's clash with the Western Bulldogs.

Liam Shiels has been sidelined for the first two rounds due to a wrist injury he sustained in the final NAB Challenge match against North Melbourne.

But Hawthorn football boss Chris Fagan said the 24-year-old has taken part in the majority of Hawthorn's training drills this week and will undergo a fitness test later in the week determine whether he is fit to take his place in the side.

"He did all the skill work last week and now what it really comes down to is can he cop the real match pressure stuff that's coming if he plays on the weekend," Fagan told the club's website.

"We'll probably test that out later in the week, say Friday or Saturday."

Hawthorn take on the undefeated Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
