Greater Western Sydney has signed former Commonwealth Games decathlete Jake Stein.
The Giants have signed Stein for the 2017 season as a category B rookie, after he has spent the past six months trialing with the club.
The 22-year-old, who hails from Penrith in Western Sydney, represented Australian in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.
โItโs fantastic to be part of this club and Iโm looking forward to whatโs to come,โ Stein said.ย
โAthletics is a bit of a lonely sport at times compared to footy where you have 40 guys on the list so I canโt wait to be back in that team culture.
โHaving only started following AFL closely in recent years, Iโve got a real appreciation of how hard the players work and the different skill set thatโs required.
โTheyโre incredible athletes and now that Iโve been lucky enough to get this opportunity, I canโt wait to give it my best crack.
โAFL is really starting to build in Western Sydney and Western Sydney is really embracing the Giants and I hope I can play in role in that continuing.โ
