Fremantle has locked away star draftee Murphy Reid for another two years on top of his initial contract, taking him until the end of 2029.

Reid has burst onto the AFL scene after being taken with Pick 17 in the 2024 intake, playing every game for the Dockers this season.

The Victorian is averaging 13.6 disposals, 2.2 tackles, 2.1 marks, 5.4 score involvements and 1.1 goals.

Reid's debut in Round 1 against Geelong raised the eyebrows of many, kicking four consecutive goals and clawing Fremantle back into the contest.

"Ever since I got here, everyone has just wrapped their arms around me," Reid said.

"The connection is great here at the Club, the culture is great, and that's probably been a highlight - making new mates.

"Jaymie Graham (forwards coach) and all the high half-forwards have taken me under their wing - like Michael Frederick, Sam Switkowski, and Shai Bolton. Those boys who are a bit more experienced in that field, have all been great in helping me transition from a midfielder to a forward."

Reid was tipped to go higher in the draft, but when he slipped to late in the first round, Fremantle wanted to anchor down on the talented mid-forward, which has already begun paying dividends.

"Since joining the Freo family, Murphy has demonstrated a strong sense of professionalism to learn and improve his game," Fremantle Head of Player Personnel David Walls said.

"He came to the Club as a midfielder and has transitioned to a new role in attack after working closely with our coaches - and the entire playing squad - to add to his game.

"Moving to WA, Murphy has been able to develop strong relationships with his teammates and has established a good connection with his host family.

"It's obviously been a strong year on-field as a first-year player, so it's pleasing to be able to reward that form with an extension. Clearly, he is happy and wants to be a part of what we are building at Fremantle."

Reid joins Richmond duo Luke Trainor (2027) and Harry Armstrong (2027) as first-round selections from last year who have extended beyond the initial three-year contract.

Brisbane's Levi Ashcroft unlocked his pre-draft arrangement when Round 6 hit, which sees him at the Lions until 2029.
