Former Carlton and Essendon player, Jordan Bannister, has announced his retirement from AFL umpiring.

Bannister has quit the profession due to increasing work commitments outside of umpiring.

The 34-year-old played 14 games for Essendon and 53 for Carlton during a nine year AFL career.

He then worked his way up the ranks of the umpiring system, becoming a VFL umpire in 2010, before earning promotion to AFL level in 2012, where he has be a field umpire for the past four seasons.
