Former Melbourne-listed player and Geelong Falcons product, Cameron Johnston, has signed with NFL franchise, Philadelphia Eagles, as a punter.

Johnston was recruited by the Demons with pick No.63 in the 2010 Rookie Draft, but failed to play a game, before being delisted at the end of 2011.

The 25-year-old attended Ohio State University and won a National Championship and a Big Ten conference title.

Johnston was a finalist in Ray Guy Awards in his second year at College, which is awarded to the best punter in the College football system.

He missed out on selection in the three-day, seven round NFL draft which ended over the weekend.

However, minutes after the draft finished, he was signed by the Eagles as a free agent.

"Excited for the opportunity to sign with the @Eagles! Looking forward to getting to Philadelphia to compete and learn!" Johnston tweeted after being signed.

He is the third Australia to play for Philadelphia, following in the footsteps of former North Melbourne and Collingwood player Saverio Rocca and Brad Wing.
