St Kilda were forced to use their medical sub ahead of the final term in Sunday's clash with Melbourne at the MCG.

Saints forward Dan Butler had his day brought to an abrupt end after suffering an Achilles injury in the third quarter, with St Kilda pulling the trigger on using their substitution at the final break.

Butler was kept to just the eight touches and three marks against the Demons, with the ex-Tiger failing to impact the scoreboard.

First-year midfielder Marcus Windhager was brought into the game as the Saints trail by 28 points to start the fourth term.

Veteran Brad Hill had also been hindered during the match, having suffered a cut to his right knee earlier in the contest.

Demons defender Jake Lever also required medical treatment for a corked thigh complaint, however the premiership backman has been able to play out the match.
