Essendon have signed AFL Coaches Association assistant coach of the year and Western Bulldogs assistant Daniel Giansiracusa for the 2021 season, as first reported by The Age.

The former Bulldog has spent the last six years at Whitten Oval in the coaches box, remaining with the club immediately after announcing his retirement as a player during 2014.

Giansiracusa took on the role of the Bulldogs' VFL coach last year and was set to remain at his post for 2020 before the season's closure due to COVID-19 and instead worked with the senior group this season.

The highly rated assistant will join incoming Bombers coach Ben Rutten as Essendon prepare to bounce back from a tumultuous 2020 campaign.

Giansiracusa has worked closely with Essendon target Josh Dunkley, with the now-former Bulldogs coach taking charge of the forwards during Dunkley's earlier years and soon made a switch to the midfield group alike the 23-year-old.

While the Bulldogs have denied any chance of moving on their gun midfielder, there is believed to be mutual interest between Dunkley and the Bombers.
