Essendon father-son draft prospect Alwyn Davey Jnr has opened up on his journey to Tullamarine, expected to head to the Bombers alongside twin Jayden in the AFL draft later this month.

Alwyn Jnr and Jayden, the sons of former 100-game Bomber Alwyn Snr, have impressed in their junior careers, with the pair officially nominating Essendon in October.

Speaking on SEN Sportsday, Davey Jnr revealed that after finishing up with school, he is now living with AFL great Eddie Betts.

Betts, who played 350 games across his illustrious career, is currently playing for NTFL club Palmerston in Darwin.

“I got through that challenge, I finished on Monday with the PE exams so I'm very excited,” Davey Jnr said.

“I'm staying at Eddie Betts' house right now.

“He's flying in and flying out (from Darwin) at the moment.

“I don't know how Anna (his wife) is going to be dealing with that with him travelling all the time.

“It is pretty hectic.”

The exciting young forward is looking forward to his 2023 campaign after spending 2022 with the Oakleigh Chargers, hoping he won't have to wait long for his AFL debut.

“I don't want to be too arrogant,” Davey Jnr said.

“I play mostly a high forward or midfield, and I'd say if I really want to push for a round, it'd be Round 3 (to make my debut).”

The AFL National Draft will be held across two days, beginning on Monday, November 28.
