Essendon has bolstered their coaching stocks ahead of the 2023 season, re-signing vaunted assistant Daniel Giansiracusa to a two-year deal less than a month after naming Brad Scott as the club's senior coach.

After spending the entirety of his playing days at the Kennel clad in red, white and blue, Giansiracusa commenced his coaching career with the Dogs before eventually joining the Dons ahead of the 2021 season.

The 40-year-old has since been tasked with leading the Bombers' backline over the last two seasons, seeing rises from Mason Redman, Jordan Ridley and Brandon Zerk-Thatcher under his watch.

Giansiracusa's influence in improving the club's rearguard saw him named the 2022 AFLCA Assitant Coach of the Year.

Speaking via a prepared statement released from Tullamarine on Friday, the rising talent stated that he was stirred by the prospect of a new direction under Scott.

โ€œWhile this year has been challenging, we have such an exciting opportunity to reset and move forward under Brad's guidance,โ€ Giansiracusa said.

โ€œBrad has a clear direction for the club and we are both aligned in our coaching philosophies and I look forward to working with him to bring out the best in our playing group.

โ€œOur list is young but has a lot of potential. As a coaching group, we will educate and work with our players to set the standards required to be a successful team.

โ€œEssendon has been fantastic for my development over the past two seasons and I'm excited to continue my coaching journey at the club.โ€

Since joining Essendon, Giansiracusa has been part of a coaching unit that has overseen a combined 18-27 record, with the club still yet to break their long-term finals drought.

Giansiracusa's extension all but eliminates him from the possibility of landing the top job at Moorabbin after it was announced that St Kilda had parted ways with head coach Brett Ratten on Thursday night.
