Melbourne have traded ruckman Braydon Preuss to Greater Western Sydney in exchange for pick 31.

Preuss requested a move to the Giants last month after planning to leave the club this off-season.

Preuss played a total of 10 games for the Demons after arriving at the club from North Melbourne two years ago.

Giants General Manager of Football Jason McCartney welcomed Preuss to the club.

“We're excited to welcome Braydon to the Giants for at least the next three seasons,” McCartney said.

“We were in the market for a ruckman and earmarked Braydon very early as someone who could add significantly to our list.

“We were thrilled that he chose the Giants for the next chapter of his career and it’s a great endorsement for our club.

“Braydon has had a tremendous apprenticeship under star rucks Todd Goldstein and Max Gawn and is ready to take his game to the next level."

The trade is the Demons' third for the day after swapping picks with Adelaide and moving Mitch Hannan to the Bulldogs
