Ballantyne requests trade to West Coast

Fremantle forward Hayden Ballantyne has requested a trade to West Coast.

In a bombshell that will rock the Dockers, Ballantyne has asked to be traded before his contract expires at the end of 2017.

The 29-year-old could be the highest profile Docker to depart at the end of the season as Fremantle deals with the fallout from its three-win season.

Channel Seven Perth reported that the small forward’s first choice would be to join West Coast, but he would be open to a trade to an interstate club.

A source close to Ballantyne told the small forward made the request to be traded to coach Ross Lyon some time ago.

Ballantyne also had a close relationship with assistant coach Peter Sumich, who is widely tipped to join the Eagles after being sent on ‘gardening leave’ by the Dockers earlier this week.
