AFL Media's Damian Barrett has named the player from every club that needs to lift in a story on afl.com.au.

Barrett has taken aim at some of the game's biggest stars for their underwhelming performances in the opening three rounds, with Richmond's Dustin Martin headlining the list.

The silky Tiger has struggled to recapture his phenomenal 2017 form, regressing last season, but dropping to a new low in 2019. Martin is averaging 21.3 disposals, 4.0 marks and 2.0 tackles this season and has not booted a single goal.

Heck, the 'dont argue' has barely been sighted nor has the same flare and power that earmarked him as one of the game's elite players. The former Brownlow medallist's frustrations came to a halt against GWS and as a result and he'll be watching his teammates from the sidelines this week.

Another big-name player Barrett has called out is Melbourne's Christian Petracca. With the winless Dees struggling at the bottom of the ladder, the former pick No. 2 is always the first to cop it when his team is struggling.

The fact of the matter is that Petracca has struggled to live up to the hype, for a player that shows so much in the Jordan De Goey-mould. The 23-year old needs to lift if Melbourne are to charge back up the ladder.

Barrett has also criticised Adelaide's Bryce Gibbs and Fremantle's Jesse Hogan for their quiet starts to the season. The Crows are yet to reap the rewards for trading two first-round picks for Gibbs in 2016, while Hogan must bounce back from a turbulent off-season and prove his worth to Fremantle.
