A hamstring injury is set to keep Adelaide midfielder David Mackay out of Friday night’s clash with Geelong at the Adelaide Oval.

Mackay sat out the majority of the last quarter of Saturday night’s 15-point loss to the Western Bulldogs at Etihad Stadium.

The 27-year-old will have scans to determine the extent of the injury, but Adelaide’s general manager of high performance Brett Burton said the club was resigned to Mackay missing the highly-anticipated return of Geelong superstar Patrick Dangerfield.

“He is unlikely to play this week,” Burton said. “We’ll get some further information on that hamstring in the next few days, but with a short turnaround he’ll struggle to play (on Friday night).”
