Port Adelaide champion Kane Cornes has given Magpies forward Jordan De Goey a heavy whack after a disappointing start to his 2021 season.

The 25-year-old has booted seven goals (four of which coming in Collingwood's win over Carlton in Round 2) in his four games so far this year, whilst running a large portion of his minutes through the middle of the park.

The star Magpie booted two goals in Collingwood's 30-point loss to Greater Western Sydney on Saturday night, but was held to just seven disposals in 92% time on ground.

Cornes questioned De Goey's fitness and contract demand after the Round 4 loss, stating the goalsneak has failed to deliver after signing a lucrative new deal at the end of last year.

Speaking on Footy Classified on Monday night, Cornes said De Goey was letting his club down.

"For me, he's not fit enough," Cornes said.

"Six years (in the AFL), 25 years of age and 100 games, he's finished top 10 in their best and fairest once. He is not delivering to what he is expected and wants to be paid.

"He's got to get fitter and he's got to really look at himself because right now he's letting Collingwood down."

De Goey will be required to further lift his intensity this weekend as the Magpies travel to Perth to take on the Eagles in Round 5.

Collingwood will be without star midfielder Taylor Adams for the next 10 weeks due ligament damage in his knee.

De Goey was placed under an injury cloud of his own with a finger complaint, but is tipped to feature against West Coast on Friday night.
