Kane Cornes has named his top 10 players whose careers were limited by injuries in their prime years on SEN.

Cornes has based his list on players who didn't get the most out of their careers due to a number of factors such as injuries, tragedies or other variables that may have contributed.

Included in the list is Melbourne great David Schwarz, whose best days as a Demon were limited by three serious knee injuries in 1995 and 1996.

"In his prime was one of the most powerful and dynamic key forwards in the game," Cornes worte.

"He was 29 when forced into retirement."

John Coleman also made an appearance on the list after only the 98 games and 537 goals to his name, before a dislocated knee, ligament damage and multiple failed comeback attempts ended his career at 25.

"It has been noted by several medical experts that the same injury in today’s game would only sideline the player for about six weeks. What a shame."

Daniel Menzel was also included in the list, who suffered four knee reconstructions during his career that affected him in a huge way.

"Burst onto the scene in late 2010 and proved he was one of the game brightest prospects by playing 18 games and kicking 26 goals in his second year before cruelly going down with a wrecked knee in the qualifying final against Hawthorn in 2011."

Another notable player who struggled with injury was Essendon forward Scott Gumbleton, who had to retire at age 26 after 35 games in seven seasons with the Bombers and Dockers.

"Was plagued by injury from the minute he walked into Windy Hill after being the second pick in the 2006 draft. Managed only three games in his first three seasons. He was traded to Fremantle at the end of 2013 but never played a game. Chronic back and hamstring injuries restricted him"
