Geelong youngster Lincoln McCarthy is set to sign one-year contract extension, keeping him at the Cattery until at least the end of next season.

McCarthy has been rewarded for a breakthrough season in which he has played 14 of a possible 19 games, taking his career tally to 19 over five season at Geelong.

AFL.com.au reports that the 22-year-old's new deal will include a games based trigger clause for an further extension into 2018.

McCarthy has kicked 12 goals so far this season, emerging as the Cats' first choice small forward.

He was selected with pick No.66 in the 2011 National Draft.
