The patriarch of the Carlton Football Club's greatest family, Sergio Silvagni passed away.

Silvagni, a dual premiership player, two-time club best and fairest and Team of the Century member passed away on Thursday morning. He was 83 years of age.

Tributes have started to flood in for the Blues icon.

Silvagni played 239-games for the Blues, including Carlton's 1968 and 1970 premierships. He was named in Carlton's team of the century and was elevated to legend status in the club's hall of fame in 2016.

The hard-nosed midfielder retired at the end of 1971, but proceeded to hold several off-field roles at Carlton, including becoming a committee member, selector and reserves coach.

Carlton President Mark LoGiudice expressed his gratitude towards Silvagni's service to the club in a press release.

"Sergio was and always will be a Legendary Carlton person", LoGiudice said.

"He was such an important figure to many Carlton supporters growing up during the 1960s, particularly those who had migrated to Australia and could instantly identify with one of their heroes.

"He would go on to become one of our greatest ever players and his impact on the Club will forever hold a significant place in our history books.

"The Carlton Football Club mourns the loss of one of its Legends. On and off the field he embodied what it means to be a Carlton person and we offer our heartfelt condolences to his family".

Carlton will wear black arm bands in this Sunday's game against Collingwood.

In an attempt to show further tribute to Silvagni's memory, our own digital producer, and staunch Carlton man, Edmond Lemmo has called upon the club to go a step further.
