Brisbane senior coach Chris Fagan has spoken on the ongoing investigation into the Hawthorn racism allegations openly for the first time, with the Lions boss still waiting to assist the independent panel.

Fagan, alongside former Hawthorn coach and current North Melbourne mentor Alastair Clarkson, has denied any wrongdoing during his time as an assistant and administrator during his time at Waverley following the harrowing claims made against former Hawks coaches by First Nations players.

The Lions coach was placed on indefinite leave following the allegations and eventually returned to his duties in October ahead of Brisbane's pre-season plans.

Speaking to media on Monday, Fagan said he initially battled with the news but has since looked to return to normality.

"The first couple of weeks (I struggled), not really knowing whether it was ok to walk down the street or not," he said.

"But after a while, I realised we can't live like that. So I've just been living normally since that point.

"I've got a very clear conscience. They say a clear conscience is the best sedative and I'm sleeping well.

"...I know everyone's really interested in my thoughts on it, and I respect that, but you also have to respect the fact that it's going to remain private until ... the investigation is over."

The results of the ongoing investigation were originally expected to be made public this month, however the delicacy of the proceedings are likely to see a final report confirmed in 2023.

Fagan said he remained unclear as to when the findings would be revealed, with the Lions coach yet to discuss his side of the allegations with the independent panel.

"We all thought it was going to be over by Christmas time but it'll go longer than that," he added.

"I'm just patiently waiting for my opportunity to speak at the investigation.

"You'd like it to happen soon rather than later. But I've got to be patient.

"We'll just wait and see what the investigation reveals."

Brisbane's entire 2023 squad commenced pre-season training this week, with new faces Josh Dunkley and Jack Gunston among those that hit the track on Monday.

The AFL revealed on Sunday that the Lions will open their 2022 campaign against Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval on Saturday, March 18.
