The Western Bulldogs have entered the race for two-time premiership player Matthew Suckling.

The Bulldogs have met with Suckling in recent days and have alerted the Hawks of their interest in signing the 27-year-old.

Suckling, a premiership player with the Hawks in 2014 and 2015, is said to have a very strong relationship with Dogs coach Luke Beveridge, who was a Hawthorn assistant coach from 2012-2014.

Hawthorn is believed to want to retain Suckling, however, has limited space in its salary cap to pay out of contract players.
