North Melbourne has disputed Channel Seven's reports that midfielder Ben Jacobs will miss the rest of 2016.

"Jacobs met with specialist today re foot. No decision on treatment yet. No surgery planned at this stage. Reports re season over unfounded," the Roos said in a tweet.

Earlier, Channel Seven's Tom Brown reported that Jacobs will require surgery after breaking his foot and will likely miss the remainder of the season.

"I understand Ben Jacobs...has broken his foot, I think he had scans today and will have surgery tomorrow, " Browne said.

"I don't think he'll take part in the home and away season and is unlikely to play again, or at least faces a fight to play again this season."
