Collingwood defedner and restricted free agent Nathan Brown has joined St Kilda on a reported two-year deal, after the Pies opted not to match the Saint's offer for the 27-year-old.

Brown played 130 games for the Magpies over nine seasons, including the 2010 premiership, after being selected with pick 10 in 2006 National Draft.

St Kilda Chief Operating Officer Ameet Bains said the club is thrilled to add some much neededย defensive experience to its side.

โ€œNathan is a handy acquisition for the club and will obviously strengthen our defence,โ€ Bains said.

โ€œBringing Nathan in as a free agent also allows us to fill a key need without compromising our overall trade position; an important consideration given the trades we have completed during this exchange period.

โ€œHis ability to hold down a key defensive post makes him an attractive prospect for where our list is currently placed.

โ€œIn addition to his experience and leadership on the field, Nathan is a terrific person off the field and we look forward to him joining our ranks.โ€

Brownย is St Kilda's second acquisition this trade period, with Jack Steele joining the club last week. Western Bulldogs midfielder Koby Stevens is also expected to become a Saint later this week.
