Suspended Essendon player Brent Stanton has re-committed to the club for 2017, signing a one-year contract extension.

The 30-year-old said John Worsfold's impact on the club was a key factor in his decision to return to the Bombers.

“I took the time I needed to make sure I made the right decision for myself, my family and the footy Club, and I’m really excited about playing on next season,” Stanton said.

“Being a one club player with Essendon is something that is really important to me. Witnessing the spirit and performance from the boys this season, and also our loyal members and supporters, gives me great confidence in the direction of the football Club.

“As a senior player it’s great to see Woosha’s drive and ambition. The structure, culture and vision he’s established at the football Club will help us become a really competitive team and hopefully build success for everyone involved with the Essendon Football Club.”

Stanton is the seventh banned player to re-sign, joining Tom Bellchambers, Cale Hooker, Travis Colyer, Heath Hocking, David Myers and Dyson Heppell.

He has played 248 games for the Bombers since making his debut in 2004.
