Essendon defender Mason Redman is facing a nervous wait from the MRO after a second quarter incident with Tiger Dion Prestia during Saturday night's Dreamtime clash.

Redman was reported on the spot for the off-the-ball incident, where he elbowed Bolton in the throat, prompting a melee to erupt on the cusp of half time.

Former St Kilda captain Nick Riewoldt spoke on the incident during Fox Footy's half time coverage, saying that the 24-year-old will face scrutiny from the MRO.

“He‘ll be in trouble for that one,” Riewoldt said on Fox Footy.

“The elbow comes up, it’s pretty deliberate and cops Prestia high.

“He (Prestia) gets up, but it’s a fine or a suspension.”

With Essendon facing scrutiny throughout the week over their efforts on the ground during their loss to Sydney, Riewoldt was impressed by the response from the Bombers.

“They did (play with aggression) and they needed to, the whole world was watching,” Nick Riewoldt said post-game.

“We knew they were going to respond, they were under pressure like nothing else this week. I thought there was a response from an effort point of view, a few skirmishes which is probably what people wanted to see last week when their players were challenged.

“In the end, that’s what they brought, but Richmond brought that and a really good system on top of it and that’s why they were big winners.”

Redman will learn his fate on Sunday evening, with the Bombers next set to face Port Adelaide in Round 11. Meanwhile, Richmond's Jack Riewoldt may also face scrutiny for a tripping incident late in the game.
