Carlton has reportedly joined the race for Gold Coast midfielder Dion Prestia.

The 23-year-old appears to have played his final game for the club, with the Suns confirming yesterday that he will miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury, amid mounting speculation that he will seek a trade at season's end.

The Age reports that Carlton has informed Prestia's management that the club is interested in acquiring the midfielder in this year's trade period.

However, the Blues are said to be unwilling to part ways with their first-round draft pick, which will make securing Prestia's signature, nigh impossible.

Richmond and Melbourne have also both been linked to Prestia, with the Dees' willing to offer the former top ten draft pick around $700,000 per season in a long-term deal.
