The AFL is said to be preparing to request permission from the league's player association so they can finalize fixtures that will see sides play off five-day breaks.
According to a report fromย The Ageย on Sunday morning, the collective bargaining agreement (CBA) between the league at its players states that each of the competition's 18-teams will only be subjected to a singular fie-day break per season.
With the news that almost every side has already completed their allotted brief break for the year, the AFL and their fixturing team are reportedly hopeful that the AFLPA will see their pleas as reasonable given the current circumstances.

However, a precedent was already set earlier this year when the AFLPA turned down the league's application for the Western Bulldogs' Round 17 clash with the Swans to be altered, as the Dogs had already been exposed to a short turnaround earlier in the season.
A collective of reporters atย The Ageย were of the belief that the PA remained undecided about whether they would renunciate their previous stance.
This latest turn of events has come about due to the Annastacia Palaszczuk led Queensland government's decision to call for a snap lockdown across the south-eastern portions of the state on Saturday.

These moves led to an abrupt pause to fixtures taking place in the sunshine state, with all teams that were then residing in the area forced to flee by plane to Victoria.
The AFL is yet to announce their Round 21 fixture at the time of writing.
