West Coast forward Liam Ryan has been cleared by the AFL following an investigation into a street fight that involved the premiership Eagle last month.

The AFL's Integrity Unit and WA Police have both determined that Ryan was among "victims of an attack by a larger group of people" at an event in Jan

The league has disclosed that Ryan "attempted to de-escalate the incident and walk away from the group", with the AFL, and WA police, deciding against taking further action in regards to the incident.

"The AFL has today concluded its inquiries into a video that surfaced on social media of West Coast Eagles player Liam Ryan being involved in a physical altercation following a festival held in Fremantle on January 17, 2025," an AFL statement read.

"The AFL Integrity Unit inquiries and investigations by WA Police determined that the altercation occurred after Ryan and his companions were the victims of an attack by a larger group of people whilst leaving the event.

"WA police confirmed to the AFL that officers were in the area at the time of the fight and that Ryan was being treated as a witness to an incident where his group was pursued by a larger group, resulting in one of his female companions being assaulted and suffering facial injuries.

"It was determined that Ryan attempted to de-escalate the incident and walk away from the group before being confronted, leading to the fight that was captured on social media.

"WA Police have advised the AFL that they intend to take no action against Ryan as a result of the matter and that he was cooperative and assisted the police by attending and providing police statements.

"It should also be noted that Ryan was not drinking on the night and was driving.

"The AFL will take no further action."

Ryan is now expected to line up for the Indigenous All Stars when they take on Fremantle at Optus Stadium next week.

The Eagles will face North Melbourne in early March to conclude their pre-season schedule before a Round 1 game against Gold Coast on Sunday, March 16.
