St Kilda midfielder Seb Ross has been linked to Essendon as the Bombers look to bolster their midfield stocks for 2021.

Ross is contracted for next season but struggled to hit his stride in 2020, playing well below his averages and losing midfield rank to a number of teammates just 12 months on from winning the club's best and fairest.

According to SEN's Garry Lyon and his sources, the Bombers are believed to be interested in the 27-year-old.

“My 8.30 man is suggesting that Seb Ross may have wandered through the Essendon setup (in previous weeks),” he said on SEN Breakfast.

“He is (Tim Watson’s) nephew and he’s apparently wondering around (Essendon territory)."

Watson played down the report but couldn't rule out any move of its kind.

“I haven’t heard anything about that (rumour),” he said.

“I wouldn’t expect him to give me a call and ask me anyways, Seb is very closed-shop and doesn’t give me anything.

“I haven't heard anything along those lines.”

Essendon are set to acquire Jye Caldwell from the Giants and have continued their push for contracted Western Bulldogs star Josh Dunkley as the clubs looks to strengthen its engine room.

The Bombers are set to add plenty of trade value to their hand with the imminent departures of Joe Daniher, Adam Saad and Orazio Fantasia.
