Carlton have their sights set on Collingwood star Jordan De Goey, according to Essendon great Tim Watson.

The Magpies forward is out of contract but not eligible for free agency, meaning a rival club would need to trade to acquire him.

Despite previously declaring that he wants to stay at Collingwood beyond 2020, the 24-yer old is expected to attract big-money offers from other teams.

The Blues have already begun an off-season spending spree with the impending arrivals of Giant Zac Williams and Bomber Adam Saad. And they're reportedly not done yet.

Speaking on SEN Breakfast on Wednesday, Demons legend Garry Lyon said Carlton have been "stockpiling salary cap for a number of years" and are eyeing a third big-name recruit.

“My ‘8:30 man’ reckons that Carlton have been stockpiling salary cap room for a number of years now, which is why they can make the big offers to Zac Williams and Adam Saad,” Lyon said.

“He’s saying they’re not finished … they’re not finished.

“They’re asking the question of some big names and some big, big names are asking the question of them.”

Watson told SEN Breakfast this morning that De Goey is on the Blues' radar despite how difficult it may be to broker a deal with their arch rival.

“After you told me about your ‘8:30 man’ I went to my ‘9:45’ man and I said, ‘What are you hearing?’” Watson said on Friday.

"And he said, ‘Yes, Carlton are keen on (Jordan) De Goey and I said, ‘How can they possibly get that deal done?’ and he said, ‘With great difficulty but they are looking at him as a possible recruit as well’.

“I can’t see how they’re going to get that deal done.”

Should De Goey seek a move elsewhere the Pies would undoubtably demand a hefty return for the star forward in a trade.

Acquiring Saad may already prove to be difficult for Carlton, with Essendon boss Adrian Dodoro stating they will require "compelling compensation" in a deal.

De Goey has averaged 13.4 disposals from nine games in 2020 and booted 14 goals.
